Volunteers help us achieve our mission every day — join us to support our daily work of giving children hands-on experiences with science and connecting them with the wonders of nature. Become a YSI volunteer!
For almost 60 years our family of volunteers has helped YSI grow into one of the premier science education nonprofits in Northern California. We simply couldn't do what we do without our volunteers.

Current Volunteer opportunities:
Trail Maintenance: Viola Anderson Native Plant Trail - It's not a jungle out there, and we'd like to keep it that way!
Please join YSI every Tuesday at Vasona Park in Los Gatos, 4:00PM until dusk, to work on the trail.
Each year, thousands of Vasona park visitors and school children stroll along this trail and learn about 39 species of native plants. Help us remove invasive non-native species, trim shrubs and trees, water plants, and remove debris.
Work for all ages. (Children under 14 need parent supervision). Wear work clothes, comfortable close toed shoes, bring gloves if you have them. Call Janet Hoffman 408-3564945 x26 or email Janet@ysi-ca.org for more information.
YSI Thrift and Gift Shop:
Have some extra time on your hands? Interested in volunteering? Join the most dedicated group of volunteers around, who help operate the Thrift and Gift Shop on Alum Rock Avenue in East San Jose. 100% of net proceeds go directly to YSI programs.
We have many volunteer opportunities available at the Thrift and Gift Store. Volunteer job opportunities include: working on the sales floor with customers, cashiering and pricing merchandise. Some preferred qualities are: previous retail or customer service, enjoy working with the public, counting money and basic knowledge of products.
We have a variety of hours to fit most anyone's schedule. It is rewarding work and supports the mission of YSI! Stop by 3151 Alum Rock Ave, San Jose, call 408-272-1301, or e-mail thriftstore@ysi-ca.org!
